Butterfly Lines - a collection of love poems and short stories

Beauty behind the curtain.

I got out of bed one morning, feeling depressed and sad. I opened my door and to my disappointment the wet newborn winters day stared back at me, dark gray clouds in the sky and not a hint of sunshine. Oh, well. It is winter so what do you expect. As I was about to turn back, something caught my eye. In the farthest corner of the garden, amongst the lush, green citrus fruit trees, the plum tree was standing, stripped of its leaves. What were so wonderful, were the hundreds of tine raindrops decorating the brown, bare branches. It looked like somebody neatly fastened strings of diamond necklaces to each branch. I went outside to take a closer look. As I was standing next to the tree, admiring the spectacle, a few sunrays slowly, but surely forced their way through the dark clouds. I knew what was about to happen, and waited in anticipation.

Finally the rays of the sun broke through, reached down and touched each and every drop hanging on tree. Right before my eyes, the silver diamonds transformed into an explosion of brilliant, flashing colours. I looked up into the sky, and saw a rainbow, reflecting the same colours and then, to my amazement, it started to drizzle. There I was, standing in my garden, looking at this breathtaking display through a misty curtain of light rain, speechless and in awe. Gone was my depression. I lifted my head to heaven and prayed: Lord, thank you for this day and thank you for every living creature. Today, you showed me that every dark cloud can be pushed away, so the sun can shine through and bring warmth and colour into our lives. Please remind me to always look through the curtain of despair and unhappiness, to see the beautiful and positive things life has to offer. I praise you Lord.
