Butterfly Lines - a collection of love poems and short stories

Dear Someone.

Dear someone. I do not have a name, therefore I am unable to tell you who I am. I was born a few months ago, have all my fingers, toes, two blue eyes, blond hair, and just every organ and part a human needs to survive. My mother did not want me, so she took me to a childrens home and left me there, with strangers. The first person I met at the home is the matron. She is a very nice lady and she likes me very much. I know that because she calls me her little angel and she says she cannot understand a parent can abandon a pretty little thing like me. She also says that if was hers, she could have worked her fingers to the bone to make sure I had everything I need. I am not complaining. The ladies who work here try their best to take care of us. They have quite a few babies to see to, and I often have to wait till one of them can come and change or feed me.

People come in here all the time to play with us. Sometimes they bring old clothes for us to wear or toys to play with. Don't you think I am a lucky little fellow? I have been wondering, though, what is going to happen to me when I grow older? Do you think someone will like me enough to make them part of their family? I haven't told anyone yet, but you know what? I would love to have a mum and a dad. I know there are people out there who would love to have a child, but due to some health problems, they are unable to. If you are one of those people, you need to be informed that there are many children in children's homes all over the world who would love to have you for a parent.

If I am lucky enough to be adopted, just imagine how much fun I will have. In the morning, when I wake up, I will scream at the top of my voice to get the attention of my mum or dad. My mummy will come into my bedroom, pick me up from my bed, and she will get a very nasty smell. She will say "Phew! Did mummy's little angel make a booboo?" She will change my nappy, take me to her bedroom, put me down on my daddy's chest and he will play with me and tell me his secrets until breakfast is ready. Mummy will then call us and we will join her at the and the three of us will have breakfast together. Daddy will go to work and my mum and me will go shopping, take care of the household, work in the garden, prepare supper, and do fun things. One day, when I am big enough, my daddy and I will go to Newlands to watch the cricket, watch rugby on T.V., go fishing, and do what men are supposed to do.

All I want is a mum and dad who will love and take good care of me, and a home where I can feel safe and secure. I know some grown-ups are scared to raise other people's children, but it won't be so bad. All you have to do, is to use the wisdom God gave you, the knowledge you acquired, and your experience to teach me to become a loyal, hardworking person like you. Then you shower me with all the love in your heart and show me how to be as compassionate, giving and caring like you. Have faith in yourself and trust in God to help you to make the right choices. We could be a praying, loving, happy family who will be there for one another, no matter what.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
I could be yours faithfully.
Child with no name.

Butterfly.
